En Plein Air & Sunshine at The Beach!

Castle Cove, Weymouth

I spent a lovely few hours on the beach today getting my pencils and paint out for the first time this year! It’s been too chilly for Plein Air work until now, (for me anyway) and it felt great to be out in the sun by the surf again.

Painting and drawing have always been a favourite pastime for me, but I’ve often been intimidated by landscapes. These little sketches are for the loosening up process, and nothing more. I hold no expectations of my work at any point. I go in with a curious, non-judgemental attitude, and see what happens! I’m pretty pleased with todays result. I have a lungful of sea air and a new creation. Happiness!

When viewed in black & white, I can see if I have created sufficient tonal depth!
