Here it is! My new work! I’m quite pleased with it as it’s my first large oil on canvas for a while and I’m already churning with new ideas for my next piece, which means I’ve made a decision to stop here, though of course there’s always more that could be done. Sometimes it’s good to call a halt and move on.
FYI: I’m reading Stephen Donaldson’s Thomas Covenant The Unbeliever series, which is all about Earth Power, and therefore has been instrumental in leading my imagination into this one. It’s fun to note down the things that have influenced a painting or what happened during its creation.
Description: Raw Power rises from below the earth’s mantle; a furling channel of fire pours upwards in a burning vortex of vital motion and untamed wildness. Upon the horizon glow the lights of dwellings, like trees; they drip root-like anchors deep into the strata of the earth, right down to the bedrock where simple little figures mark the evolution of bird-like selves; the shapeshifters of shamanic flight and the journey of the ancestors into the void.
